Week 3 in Pictures

So long. 10-7-12
10-9-12
10-11-12

He does run this ship!  10-12-12

Three week old big boy! 10-12-12
These three weeks have flown by!  I can't believe how much he has changed and grown.  He is beginning to smile now.  He still doesn't really cry unless something is wrong (hungry, tired, diaper).  He is a night owl and will often stay up until the wee hours of the morning.  Lucky Mommy gets to stay up too.  I will enjoy every second of him being this little, no matter what time it is.  :)

Cloth Diapers

If you didn't know already, we have chosen to use cloth diapers.  I saw the idea several years ago on another blog with a link to the Cotton Babies blog.  They make many popular cloth diaper brands and have lots of information about cloth diapers on their blog.

The diapers we are using are bumgenius 4.0 diapers.  We chose them because they were avaliable at buybuyBaby which meant that we could register for them.

Yes, yes, the worst part of using cloth diapers is that you have to wash them.  Yes, they get a little nasty, but they will save us a ton of money!

I put Collin in his first cloth diaper on October 10.

They look so big on him.  He will grow into them.  :)

This is another brand, but one of the cutest diapers we have!

We still have a few more nights worth of disposibles.  I can't wait to cloth diaper full time!

Cousins and Family

On October 6, we got a visit from Philip's brother and his family.  They are expecting a baby in January so the girls were excited to see and hold Collin.

Gracie and Collin
The girls were great with Collin.  They both wanted to hold him.  Gracie loved to "pet" him on his head.  She asked lots of funny questions:
"Did Philip have the baby?"
"Do you feed your baby Rice Krispies?"
"Is the baby still in your tummy?"

Skylar and Collin
Skylar wanted to hold Collin and loved for him to hold her hand.  She watched him in his Rock N Play while I ate my supper.

Grammy came with them, but we forgot to take her picture.

We had a great time visiting, playing with dolls, watching a neighbor was his car, and eating pizza!

Week 2

On Saturday, Wendy, Sissy, and Amanda came to visit and meet Collin.  The pugs were as happy to see them as they were to see Collin.  :)

Sunday was a busy day for us.  We had lots of visitors and I was worried a fight may break out over who was going to hold Collin.  :)  Nana came back to see him along with Aunt Marie, Aunt Revonda, and Uncle Jimmy.

Collin stayed awake for a good part of their visit.  They loved how alert he was.  Nana thinks he will be very smart.  (We think so too, of course!)

On Monday, Anna left to go back home and Philip went back to work.  I was finally home alone with my baby.  To say the week was easy would not be true.  I was able to get a shower everyday!  I love being able to spend time with Collin during this stage of his life.

Tuesday his cord stump fell off.  I knew it would happen soon because it looked loose.  When I changed his diaper, it had disappeared!  It was inside his onesie.  Here is his cute little belly button.  I had been waiting for it to fall off because we couldn't use the cloth diapers until it did.  We have decided that we have enough newborn diapers for a little while longer.  Might as well use them while they fit!
Here are some other pictures from Tuesday.

Wednesday I put on this lovely shirt.  :) Philip came home and wanted to know why he was wearing that shirt.  Haha.  Needless to say, it is not his favorite.
On Thursday, Philip was going to give him a bath.  Collin had just eaten and usually poops soon after.  Philip was smart enough to just set him in the bathtub and wait for him to poop before he bathed him.  Great idea!  Within minutes, the water would have been ruined.  :)
On Friday, Collin was two weeks old.  I can't believe how much he has changed and grown already.  We are so lucky to be his parents and love having this guy around!

Birth-1 Week Events

Friday: Born and moved upstairs to new room.  Visitors: Ma, Aunt Anna, Grammy, Papa, Nana, Grandma, Ammah, PawPaw
Saturday:
  • Visit from Mrs. Patty from our pediatrician's office.  She said everything was great but that she heard a bit of a heart murmur.  She called a pediatrician to come for a check-up later in the afternoon.
  • Circumcision.  Enough said.
  • 24 hour check
  • Ma, Aunt Anna, and Nana left to go home.  Ammah and PawPaw also left to go back home.
  • Check-up with Dr. Kahn, the pediatric cardiologist.  He said that he heard a slight murmur, but it is closing up and should continue to close.  We have to follow up with them in a month.
  • After waiting for the cardiologist, it was getting late.  When we were told we could go home, they were in the process of discharging someone else.  We ended up having to wait until shift change was over and wait for the nurse to give me my flu shot.  We finally were able to go home around 7:30, after the Auburn game had already kicked off.
  • The Auburn game is another story.  Philip got tickets to the Auburn game through work.  When our induction was scheduled, he realized he wouldn't be able to go so he sent his dad and Uncle Keith.  They had a great time, even if Auburn lost.
  • Visitors: Ma, Aunt Anna, Grammy, Papa, Nana, Grandma, Ammah, PawPaw, Uncle Keith
Sunday:
  • Collin didn't wake up until about 9:30.  Grammy and Papa took care of him for a little while until it was time for him to eat.

  • Papa picked up Grandma so that she could see Collin before they left.

  • Right before Grammy and Papa were leaving, Kyle and Courtney arrived.  They drove all the way from Simpsonville to meet Collin.

  • Courtney loved holding me.  Kyle took Philip to get some items we needed from Wal-Mart for Collin.
  • Visitors: Grammy, Papa, Grandma, Kyle, and Courtney

Monday:
  • We were on our own Sunday night until Monday afternoon.  Collin was great.
  • Ma came back to stay with us for the week on Monday afternoon.
  • Visitors: Ma
Tuesday
  • I was itching to get out of the house for a little while.  We went to Wal-Mart and the outlets.  Collin was still asleep so we decided to go to the Mexican restaurant.  He slept until we got back home!
  • Our night was not as good as others had been.  Collin woke up around 2:00 and ate.  He was fussy for a few hours and we still don't really know why.  This was not like him.  :(
  • Visitors: Ma, Kasie, and Brayden
Wednesday
  • We stayed around the house.  Ma watched Collin so that we could get some sleep.  :)
  • Aunt Charlene, Kendall, and Kyle came to visit in the afternoon.

  • Visitors: Ma, Charlene, Kendall, Kyle
Thursday
  •  Ma left to go back home for a substitute job tomorrow.
  • Grandpa (no chosen name yet) and Papa came to visit Collin.  They couldn't believe how alert he was.  We went to KFC to pick up lunch and Papa was amazed that he slept the whole time in the car.
  • Visitors: Ma, Grandpa, and Papa

Friday
  • Collin had his 1 week checkup at the pediatrician.  We saw Mrs. Shannon.  He weighed 8 pounds, 3 ounces (50th percentile) and was 21.65 inches long (90th percentile).  He was in the 13th percentile for head circumference.  They said that he had gained a good bit of weight and that he is a happy baby.  He stayed awake from before we left home until after his appointment.  He was good through the whole thing but started to cry near the end.  We then ran into Ingles to pick up a few items while Collin was asleep.
  • Aunt Anna came back to stay the weekend with us.  She brought us some Cinnamon Crunch and other bagels from Panera!
  • Visitors: Anna

Introducing Collin

Welcome to our family blog.  I want to start this blog to keep up with different things we (especially Collin) are doing.  This is an easy way for friends and family to see our daily life in pictures.

After a long night and after waiting for the doctor, Collin was born on Friday, September 21, 2012 at 2:11 pm.
He weighed 7 pounds 15 ounces and was 20.5 inches long.

Grammy, Papa, Grandma Carden, Ma, Anna, and Nana were all waiting for him to arrive.  Shortly after he was born, each person was able to visit with us and hold him for just a minute before we were moved to a new room.

Collin and Daddy
Daddy is so happy he is finally here.  He was worried about mama and baby but everything went great!

Anna and Collin

Anna may have been more excited about his arrival than we were!
